muchtoocynical:

Yesterday was deemed a day to appreciate your guns in America, and boy did weFive people were shot at gun shows in North Carolina, Ohio and Indiana. These were not, however, the only instances of gun violence yesterday.

As happens everyday, numerous people were either injured or killed by guns on “Gun Appreciation Day,” be it on purpose or accidentally. Spanning Alaska to Florida, here are those people:

  • A 14-year-old suburban Atlanta boy shot and killed his 15-year-old brother while playing with their mother’s handgun.
  • A 26 year old was shot and killed while driving in San Francisco.
  • A man was found dead from a gunshot wound in his home in Kansas City, Kansas.
  • A woman in an El Paso County, Texas shooting range was hit in the knee by a bullet that ricocheted off a trash can.
  • Two women were shot to death in a Dallas-area home.
  • Two women were injured after someone opened fire at a crowded soccer field in Las Vegas.
  • A 15-year-old girl was shot while sleeping in her bed when her Anchorage home was shot at.
  • A 7-year-old boy in Tallahassee shot a 5 year old with a gun he found in a 22-year-old relative’s room.
  • A Huntsville woman shot her boyfriend after the two had an argument.
  • A 23-year-old man died after being accidentally shot in a Greshman, Oregon home.
  • A Cleveland father has been charged in connection with the death of his 6-year-old daughter from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
  • One man was shot in Elyria, Ohio, just west of Cleveland, early Saturday morning.
  • A man was found shot dead in a parking lot in Greenville County, South Carolina.
  • Two people were shot and killed outside an inn in Hampton, Virginia.
  • At least 10 people were shot in Chicago, at least two were fatal.
  • A Colorado Springs man was driven to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
  • A Jackson, Mississippi police officer was shot while responding to a disturbance call.
  • One man was shot at a Martin Luther King Jr. parade in Jackson.
  • Two men and one woman were shot at a home in Oakland.
  • An 11-year-old boy was shot in an Oklahoma City apartment complex.
  • Police in Richmond, Virginia are looking for three men who shot another man in his thirties.
  • Police believe gang violence is to blame for the shooting death of one man in Santa Ana, California.
  • An early morning shooting in Tuscaloosa injured two teenagers.

WHAT THE FUCK TALLAHASSEE

I’m extremely glad I was raised with guns, I know how to NOT FUCKING HURT MYSELF OR OTHERS BECAUSE OF IT. That way, I don’t make other people lose their right to use them because I was an idiot.

Raspberry Pi

I’m already a big arduino fan, but I’ve decided to “upgrade” to a Raspberry Pi.

The RPi, a clear acrylic enclosure, and a miniature keyboard/touchpad arrive soon.

My first project is to get a relatively new Garmin Nuvi GPS screen to function as the monitor, I haven’t found any tutorials online, and I can’t find schematics from Garmin, this might be a more tedious project than I originally hoped.

Immediately after the purchase I loaded Rasbian, Arch, and RISC onto SD cards, when the device arrives I’ll be able to quickly decide which OS I prefer.

I also want to automate my turtles environment by controlling the light and food via my android. But that’s another day.

think-progress:

Socialism is working out really well, you guys.

This country is run by corporations, party doesn’t matter. Well it does matter, this is obviously more complex than that, but a company that needs to achieve something politically doesn’t care what side they pay, as long as it gets done. And where do you think these politicians get most of their money? Family riches from the gold rush? They certainly aren’t smart enough to be inventing and selling patents in secret…

No, it’s mostly donations. And I know you want to interject that those donations don’t shape legislature, but you know you’d be wrong and heavily underestimating the effects of capitalism and the worlds economy prioritizing money over people.

For example, Oil.

“Individuals and political action committees affiliated with oil and gas companies have donated $238.7 million to candidates and parties since the 1990 election cycle, 75 percent of which has gone to Republicans.”

From 2011-2012 Top Contributors
Oxbow Corp  $4,255,200
Chevron Corp  $3,795,020
Exxon Mobil  $2,342,551
Koch Industries  $2,239,898

The real problem is crapitalism, just in the last ten years our technology and thus culture has become exponentially complex, yet we’re still using an archaic system because we’re told it’s the best.

Don’t you remember dreaming of the future where all these problems like starvation and pollution are solved? Where everyone has clean water, healthy food, and all of the necessary resources to be happy? Studies show the “no incentive to improve yourself or society without money” argument is entirely incorrect. Surprise, scientists love science, not their paychecks, and that goes for most jobs that we would choose not to automate.

It’s called a resource-based economy, and all of these problems don’t even need to be solved by us, if we stopped limiting computer research via funding we could have computers specifically built to solve these problems and properly allocate resources all over. We can connect everyone on earth via web-enabled devices of all kinds and not a single person could be left to starve. You don’t HAVE to be connected, it’s not Harrison Bergeron, it’s just allowing people to ask for help when they need it. And automated systems running on clean energy can do ABSOLUTELY ALL of the work, leaving not a single person working to gain nothing, which is the main fault of crapitalism, and it’s why there’s millions of children starving every year.

I’m not arguing with Think Progress, they’re right, he’s helping corporations more than any other president in recent history, but it was going to happen either way. The economy is expanding, technology is going crazy, and big business has ALWAYS pushed the envelope, because that’s what it’s about, profit.

Ordered an awesome new router that has as much RAM as my laptop from high school….

And I realized something I thought I had only theorized actually exists, “beamforming”, or using multiple external antenna to guide the signal in a desired direction.

At least all the stuff I invent isn’t already built. Though I was really sad to discover Stirling engine-powered solar satellites… I thought that was a good one.

Like Ray Kurzweil said, “Intuition is linear; our imaginations are weak. Even the brightest of us only extrapolate from what we know now; for the most part, we’re afraid to really stretch.”

Quote
"The very word “secrecy” is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions. Even today, there is little value in insuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it’s in my control. And no official of my Administration, whether his rank is high or low, civilian or military, should interpret my words here tonight as an excuse to censor the news, to stifle dissent, to cover up our mistakes or to withhold from the press and the public the facts they deserve to know."

I dont care who wrote this… I like what it says

Supposedly written by a 21 year old woman in Texas.

PUT ME IN CHARGE …

“Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home” will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good..”

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.”

My response.

Pardon my bluntness, this is purely political, but that was obviously written by a 21 year old woman in texas, it’s riddled with massively unrealistic right-wing generalizations. Yeah I agree too many people live off the system and abuse it but the real answers to those problems aren’t close to that elitist redneck bullshit. Every time they say “then get a job” they display ignorance for the true health, disabilities, and financial problems of the public and the governments interference with such. Despite their stereotypes 99.999% of the people on govt. assistance don’t have 22” rims. “You no longer can vote” is ridiculous too, there’s plenty of people whose life circumstances and careers have led to welfare, a considerable amount of those people have degrees and political knowledge… I see the point for conflict of interest, but that’s already everywhere. What’s this government housing and inspections crap too? Tyrannical much? Why not just put a camera in the corner of the room that watches 24/7? Just because the system has failed people and by process of application and screening they’ve proven to deserve help doesn’t mean violate the hell out of them. Regulating food stamps is a good idea but another terrible execution by this creation-loving texan (since we’re using stereotypes and all). People still need to eat healthy, not be punished, I’m on food stamps, I know the restrictions very well, and she’s dirt stupid about it. Medicaid testing for drugs (and testing for drugs in general) has been proven by statistics to do VERY little as well.

TL;DR I agree with the gist of restructuring government assistance but I could beat the shit out of their answers with statistics all day long.

The understanding human in me wants to teach them how ignorant that is, why it’s not even remotely worth it… but I also want people like that off this planet… so conflicting, to be politically correct or hand out Darwin Awards.

This belongs on the internet for so many reasons.

I can’t put this into words, when I try it doesn’t do it enough justice. The reason this is worth reading is the emotion that fueled this had been building up for years, and it shows.

Original Post: “This country has redefined hypocrisy.”

Photo: This country has redefined hypocrisy.

Jess
…yeah, but all of the children in those countries are terrorists. they’re all indirectly responsible for 9/11. plus now we don’t have to worry about them coming to take our jobs.

Derek false…. only afghanistan and Pakistan

William That’s absolutely wrong. Sorry.

William He’s actually created terrorists in Yemen by killing children and enraging the parents against us, who weren’t against us before.

Derek right and how much “knowledge” do you actually have on the subject besides what you read on the internet

Derek move to fuckin Canada

Derek ….oh wait do you work at USAFCENT… no. stop believing everything you read

Jess i’m pretty sure yemen was one of the first, back in like 2002.

Jess plus definitely…DEFINITELY in Iraq and i’ve recently heard of the phillipines being attacked as well.

William So only someone who works at USAFCENT can have a political opinion based off major foreign and domestic news sources from a wide variety of ideologies and biases? Are we questioning the legitimacy of CNN and TIME magazine as well? They’ve even covered the children in Yemen, sorry you’ve missed it?… And then tell me to relocate from a country I love so much that I spend an infinite amount of time more than the average citizen learning about and studying… Really… I know I talk about retiring to Iceland, but Canada?

Also, it shouldn’t matter at all. None of this. Those children are exactly the same as American children, some actually were American children… but because they were born in a different country doesn’t make it OK. I don’t agree with my tax dollars doing this, I apologize that we live in America and I have freedom of speech, I should get my ass to canada, I know, but I will voice my opinion and raise awareness all I want. If you have a rebuttal I’d be glad to hear how children’s lives aren’t the same.

Derek It’s war. Get use to unwanted casualties. Especially when those cowards use children as shields. And how many ppl have been protected from those strikes. A lot more than those accidentally killed.

Derek And while u sit around “researching” I’m actually put there contributing and making a difference. There once a time when u were ready to defend this country so sorry it didn’t work out for u. Back sit back and grow your beard and form your opinions while my brothers and sisters work to give u that freedom.

Lupe Yea, just kill all of somalia, those people smell and suck at physical labor

William You didn’t even know there’s been drone strikes in Yemen and you’re supposed to have a valid opinion? Putting research in quotes doesn’t do much after demonstrating a complete ignorance of a conflict that’s been occurring for a decade…

There’s no reason for that condescension when we simply disagree on foreign policy, and it’s certainly no reason to abandon the ideology you protect and tell me to move away for exercising it. JFK welcomed criticism like mine because it leads to improvement. With your logic only the military should vote because as a civilian who’s not “contributing” and just sitting around “researching” I must have a useless opinion especially since you’re telling me to leave for voicing it.

I’m making deductions based off your comments, but you’re pulling stuff out of your ass when you decide what I would fight to defend. What is your point with that anyways? You do know the country is made of both civilians and soldiers, so how does it help your argument/why even mention that I didn’t become a soldier? I retained that passion for the government and as a civilian I’m content with the FOIA, voting, debating and discussing, and writing or calling representatives and politicians as my involvement. Sorry?

Lupe Dude.. how did the guy with a beard lose on the Voice? He was a much better singer than that girl that one America sucks at voting!!!

Eric Thank you for defending our nation Derek.

Now you may want to try learning a little bit about it. Judging by your posts you are either a troll or severely misinformed, narrow minded and or delusional. I really hope you do the armed forces a favor and not make any more outlandish comments on topics which you seem to have not been reading up on.

I’ve written legislature in the form of hate crime statutes, which indeed are law now, I was a presidential classroom attendee. Thank you for the defense of our skies, but reality check buddy. The military does not make you a superior individual, unless you are some high brass you are the same as everyone else.

P.S. your’e duty is defending William’s right to make these statements, not to mention his right to show you up with some facts…

Derek Let me just say the truth. William u are a worthless citizen that will amount to nothing. Oh… And check your facts.

Derek That fact that u all have the time to write these lengthy posts is prove enough. So I’m out. Go smoke ur bong and fuck off.

Derek And Yemen was 2002…… Ha.

Derek And I’m writing this on a cell phone so *proof.

Derek And yes I think I’m better than all of u. Except Lupe. He’s like an apache helicopter.

Derek Which has killed children all over the world

Derek But before I go let me school u in how things work in the real world… The president rarely approves drone strikes myself. The power is delegated to the secdef who in returns brings it down to the secretaries of the required armed forces. Which then delegate the power to majcoms. The majcom will send a request to a numbered Air Force. They then make a strike package at the caoc. That package makes it to wing level. The wing then puts it in a squadrons hands. The squadron will get the personnel to carry out the task. The president is barely ever involved in the process. So your whole argument has been incorrect from the start. The only time he gets into it is when a super high priority target is on the line. Drones will perform ISR until the time is right and collateral damage is minimized. With the amount of sorties we do a month… Classified very high number, you would be happy to know children are barely ever hit. So when u see it on the news, yes it’s sad, but no one loses sleep because 1 out of a super high number isn’t bad at all. U just got fact raped. Here’s some vasoline.

Derek Himself* fuck autocorrect.

William Dude… really… how insecure are you that you had to tell me I wouldn’t amount to anything lolol

William You didn’t think this whole thing was actually about specifically Obama… I’m aware he literally doesn’t do a lot of those things… but thanks for the attempt at a lesson.

William And Yemen was as recent as November 7th 2012…. “ha”

Eric William was questioning the morality and legality of the strikes in accordance to international treaties, opposed to questioning operating procedures and calling the president trigger happy… I know the intelligence agency also has a drone program( out of curiosity, do they follow the same operating procedures as airforce strikes?). But i didn’t read any “red button” rhetoric here, i dont know why you alluded to that derek.

Derek U all got schooled, and no rebuttal. Figures. Have a good day.

Eric By no rebuttal do you mean the FOUR posts after your comment…
You really arent the brightest guy…

Derek No rebuttal just two Daytona state idiots trying to make a point.

Eric Stetson you mean

Derek Lmao.

Eric You need to grow up kid.

Derek Once again lmao.

Lupe SO whats up with dow jones? Is that B up or down points today?

William Derek, I’m trying to keep this political but you seem too insecure to handle that. When you pick out arbitrary crap like my beard and where I went to school, all you do is show everyone how insecure you are and how weak your argument is. Basic psychology dictates that your condescension and childish insults are ONLY because you yourself need lifting up. At this point I don’t feel like handing out compliments even though that’s actually what your sad little ego needs. Instead I’ll “hand out” one fact, I don’t need to defend myself or my education because I’m not even close to being the person you think I am. Honestly, I think the arrogance you carry for being in the air force blinds you from all sorts of other things, like a ten year long conflict that’s been reported weekly….. But I forgot, you air force guys get that secret news letter that can’t be shown to the public and you have crazy amazing insight into everything on the news…….

Evan i’ve enjoyed reading this.

Derek And again lmao.

William Oh, so that’s what it sounds like to have no argument, “lmao”

Derek That’s my I’m done wasting my time with trash like u.

William Nice, call your friend trash, not like you look terrible enough already. Go read a book.

Derek Friend? And again lmao.

William I really am sorry you’re not smart enough to differentiate personal bullshit from politics and because we don’t share the same opinions we can’t be friends. Good luck with that reality check you need.

Shaun derek you must be the biggest retard in the armed forces…and if you were really a badass you would be in the field like a real soldier because you aint protecting shit from your desk bub. Your arrogance itself is proof positive that you are a clueless puppet. so why dont you go back to your cubicle and save the world superman…you might wanna think about opening your mind too you dumb fuck

Shaun you dont deserve to call yourself an officer… real men who Actually fight should never have to salute a child like you

Lupe I like turtles

Derek U have no idea bro. Merry Christmas.
